St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Madison, WI

Welcome To St. Mark's Lutheran Church!

St. Mark's Lutheran ChurchConnect
St. Mark's is participating with several other congregations in a renewal program through the South-Central Synod of Wisconsin, ELCA called Connect. Connect is a two year program. Congregations support each other through Bible study and reflection, helping to identify and clarify the mission of each church and provide a foundation for new ministry opportunities. St. Mark's is excited to participate in this program and to further develop their hospitality ministries. Our mission statement is, "Reaching out with the unconditional love of God" though even this may be tweaked during the coming months.

Diana Butler Bass, a noted church historian, has observed that customs are what define the way a church cuts their communion bread, or what time service is or even what kind of music is played. Tradition is knowing that we are called to Jesus' table of grace, that we gather for worship out of thanksgiving, and we are to be Christ in the world. Custom's may need to change. Tradition is what keeps us grounded. Come and join us as we honor a faith tradition more than two thousand years old but that is necessary and relevant in our changing world.

Pastor Lori PowellFrom Our Pastor:
Waiting and Watching

From the December, 2017 issue of Branches

We are entering into Advent, a time of waiting and watching. Ad-vent teaches us that even in the darkest of nights we should look for signs of God’s presence and the tiniest of lights. From that light, hope grows, Christ is again born into our world. We will fol-low more deeply, with greater intention, allowing God’s grace to overwhelm us so we can offer the same grace to others, literally changing the world in which we live.

Blessings,

Pastor Lori
