St. Mark’s Lutheran Church has been a part of Madison since 1929. From the beginning St. Mark’s has been reaching out to those who need a caring hand.

St. Mark’s is firmly established in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, South-Central Synod of Wisconsin.

In 2006 St. Mark’s under went a remodeling to make the church completely wheelchair accessible and put in a commercial grade kitchen. This was important step for the congregation as a part of the ongoing food ministry.

St. Mark’s has both a food pantry that is open to the public twice a week and a Friday noon meal for anyone in the community in need of a hot meal. Some people attend for economic reasons and others attend to say hello to friends and to be a part of community.

Statement of Welcome as a Reconciling in Christ Congregation

The mission statement of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church is to “share the unconditional love of God.” In living out this mission and experiencing God’s overwhelming love we welcome into St. Mark’s community of faith those who have felt excluded from other congregations. This includes those who have felt alienated because of sexual orientation, gender, gender identification, gender expression, age, race, physical or intellectual disability, financial resources and family status. At St. Mark's, we are committed to the equity and dignity of all human beings.

As followers of Jesus Christ, members of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church are invited to work for justice and seek wholeness in every relationship and at every opportunity. This means that not only do we welcome everyone, but we encourage them into full mission partnership and have the expectation that together we can be Christ’s church in the world.
